Karl Schloz Trio - Berlin

Karl Schloz Trio - Berlin

Since moving from New York to Berlin just two years ago, Karl has found a steady working band in Germany´s capital city. Playing regularly in Berlin and concertizing through out the country, this group has forged a unique identity of the whisper-like intensity that never loses sight of the past, present and future of jazz. Drawing a repertoire from Charlie Christian to Baden Powell, Gershwin to Jim Hall, "Togetherness" in sound and spirituality, this trio has a love of the melody and a passion for interaction.

Drummer Ernst Bier (i.e. Perry Robinson, Christoph Adams, Mack Goldsbury) adds experience and groove along with basist Martin Lillich (i.e. Volker Schlott, Walter Norris) virtouoso solos and wit. This trio captures all that Karl Schloz is about and allows even a more forward-thinking, but always swinging, sound.

Karl Schloz New York Trio

This group, as displayed on "A Smooth One", Nagel-Heyer 2012, captures the ease and quiet intensity of contemporary chamber swing. Johnny Hartman´s former musical director, Tony Monte, gives his warm and crunchy piano sound while veteran bassist Steve LaSpina (i.e. Jim Hall, Joe Williams, Marion McPartland) lays out perfect time and virtouosic solos. Karl Schloz´s near acoustic guitar sound, swinging chord solos, and inspired lines bring together this true group sound reminiscent in spirit of the Oscar Peterson Trio of the 1950´s.

The group is easily augmented by special guests such as Harry Allen, Warren Vache, Ken Peplowski, as well as others. Such a tight and swinging trio always inspires these special soloists.
